Inside Smart Cities: Blockchain, Innovation, Adoption and Reality

Mr Anndy Lian, an inter-government blockchain expert and advisor led and moderated a panel session on the future of blockchain smart cities at the World Smart City Expo 2019 in South Korea. This is the largest Smart City related technology exhibition in Asia, where more than 20,000 visitors from 200 cities of 60 countries gathered together to build ‘People-centered’ smart cities.

Major technological, economic and environmental impacts in smart cities have generated great interest. The panel has a good mix of experts where they gave their views on different components that made up within the smart cities.

They are not the typical speakers that touched on the usual smart cities related topics like climate change, energy, governance or sustainability. Instead, they touched on day to day aspects within the city from the advanced electronic products to engaging the cities users with new gaming and interactive apps to how healthcare is like in a futurist city. Mr Anndy Lian who curated this panel on behalf of the organiser wants to be different from the rest of the panels and also staying close to this year’s theme of being “People-centered”.

Ms Jenny Zheng, Partner and Shareholder of ea3w.com, the leading Chinese media company for online procurement service and consumer electronics buying guide shared her views: “We are already living in a smart nation and experiencing first hand on how smart electronic appliances can do for us to our daily lives. I think the leading brands like Samsung, Xiaomi, Sony have done as great job, innovating our lives, giving us a glimpse to the future and getting us used to a brand new future of smart cities+homes.”

The discussion has also touched on the fact that smart cities are not meant for everyone and not everyone in such high tech environment can understand and adapt to the changes around them. There is a need to create awareness and education programs for the users and maybe through games or other incentive schemes to get user onboard faster.

“Smart cities are no stranger to us. But getting used to it is a different thing. I can provide a service layer using our Gaimin gamification engine to encourage more users to adopt and adapt to the smart cities with ease. On top of this, users can also earn tokens and provide valuable data to the authorities.” Mr Martin Speight, CEO of Gaimin.io said.

In conclusion, Mr Anndy Lian, Book Author of Blockchain Revolution 2030 and also an Ambassador to Blockchain Special Committee of the Gyeongsangbuk-do summarised all the points made: “Smart cities are urban area that uses Internet of things to collect data and manage the lives and cities more efficiently. Enhancing the quality and performance of components such as transportation and utilities. Digital solutions and new technologies such as blockchain will help solve the trust issues and achieve higher quality of life inside the smart cities. Also the other topic we should look at is how STOs can help fund smart cities and how a regulated digital exchange can facilitate such fund raising. In Singapore, upcoming regulated property asset-backed exchange- SingDax is looking at this and they will surely change the industry. I am looking forward to this.”

The World City Expo 2019 is hosted by Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, LH, K Water and Kintex. The expo is graced by Minister of Korea, esteem foreign VIPs and government officials from Taiwan, Europe, America, Singapore, China, South Africa and etc.

Anndy Lian Believes Blockchain Tech Drives Innovation and Productivity in Enterprise Businesses

Anndy Lian Believes Blockchain Tech Drives Innovation and Productivity in Enterprise Businesses

The World Blockchain Summit (WBS) organized by Trescon has speakers from government officials, blockchain evangelists and business leaders in the region.

The topic about Blockchain for Enterprise is discussed in one of the key panels at the summit. The panel has a good mix of Singapore blockchain experts: Anndy Lian- Member of Gyeongsangbuk-do Blockchain Special Committee, Government of the Republic of Korea and Blockchain Advisor of Asian Productivity Organisation, Elias Tan- Singapore Lead, NEO, Joseph Toh- Founder of SignKeys, Hock Yun Khoon- Partner, Blockchain Fund 1 of Tembusu Partners and Yi Ming- Partner of TRIVE.

Anndy Lian who is an advisor to intergovernmental organisations brought up a few good points during in this panel. He has urged corporations when adopting blockchain to be realistic and resourceful. Companies and people in blockchain must also keep an open mind. He believes why South Korea is successful in blockchain is due to their openness. He has seen this in Seoul, Gyeongsangbuk and Jeju especially where the governors are pushing hard for blockchain.

Anndy continued by saying “Blockchain is not everything. In order to adopt enterprise blockchain solutions, the companies need to access the need for this new technology and how they want to adopt it. Companies need to be realistic and not adopt blockchain blindly. They need to be resourceful and find the right experts to attain their blockchain vision. Blockchain technologies and companies should also work together more, collaborate often and share the knowledge with each other! Blockchain is a perfect enterprise tool for innovation and productivity if we apply the right know-how.”

Elias Tan echoed to the remarks and he said “I agree with Anndy Lian. The blockchain communities should work more together. It is not easy to get companies to understand blockchain. I faced the same issues when I deal with my family members. They do not see the need to implement blockchain. I took a long time and through numerous meeting with the family and board members to let them understand how this technology work. So when there is a chance to implement blockchain for companies, we must show them what blockchain can really do for them. We need to do our best!”

Hock Yun Khoon then went on to share some of the more successful case studies that are impactful for industries such as airlines, supply chain, logistics, medical and finance. He sees that blockchain technology is the way forward and companies should start to study about it and we will see a higher adoption rate in the near future.

Off the stage, Blockcast.cc has also managed to catch hold of some delegates to ask them about how they feel about the blockchain industry. Singapore delegations such as Manoj Thacker of Sky & Institute of Blockchain Singapore, Jocelyn Yu of Dgroup, Haw Leng of RegTech, Janet Lee of Venture Capital Network were also present and all of them are very positive about the new technology and want to see more truly Singapore driven blockchain initiatives.

“I flew in from Mauritius for the summit and I am glad to see like-minded people, I had good discussions with some of the panelists too. Coming here gives me more confidence and proved that South East Asia such as Singapore is a good place to further develop the blockchain industry.” Sebastien Ng, Founder of Masternode Ventures said.

More than 300 delegates have attended this event at Marina Bay Sands Singapore on 25 July 2019. WBS has provided a platform for regional and international organizations who are interested in the blockchain technologies to interact and exchange ideas. We look forward to the next WBS.

Blockchain Innovation and Commercialization Should Work Hand in Hand

Blockchain Innovation and Commercialization Should Work Hand in Hand

“Blockchain is likely to become the next technological revolution but innovation and commercialization should work hand in hand to make this happen.” LINFINITY CEO Anndy Lian spoke to Blockchain in Korea in an exclusive interview while attending the WBF World Blockchain Conference in Jeju, Korea.

“The Internet revolution solves the problem of the efficiency of information transmission, and blockchain will solve the problem of its value transmission. The significance of blockchain lies in its distributed structure, by which the information transmitted is transparent, trusted and cannot be artificially tampered.” Anndy said to Wanda, editor of Coinin.

“If we consider the previous technology revolutions changed the structure of workforce and freed human beings from repetitive works, then what blockchain is going to change is the relations of production.” Anndy added, “It is worth noting that in the current bear market, the blockchain industry is facing a crucial time as the market participants have changed from ‘fanaticism’ to ‘rationality’. And we should take market demand as the leading factor by truly understanding the pain points of traditional industries, and carrying out really business cooperation to accelerate the process of blockchain commercialization.”

While introducing LINFINITY, Anndy pointed out that LINFINITY aims to build a trusted anti-counterfeiting platform based on blockchain to create a brand-new supply chain ecosystem. By changing the way data used to be stored and unblocking all aspects of data circulation within the supply chain, it effectively solves the pain points of the traditional supply chain industry. “We are excited with our current progress with our FMCG partners and we strongly believe that in the near future, consumers can use our platform to check and verify the authenticity of the product they purchased.”
