During the event, OKX Ventures partner Jeff Ren emphasized in his opening speech “NOW and FUTURE of OKX Ventures” that the mission of OKX Ventures is to explore and invest in innovative blockchain projects globally, promoting sustainable development across the industry. As an investment institution deeply rooted in the blockchain industry for many years, we adhere to the strategy of “Innovation + Empowerment.” By integrating OKX’s core resources—including traffic support, trading services, public chain technology, and comprehensive technical support—we have built a complete resource ecosystem that provides comprehensive support to invested projects from early stages to critical development milestones. More importantly, OKX Ventures is not just a financial investor; we also play the dual roles of “discoverer” and “enabler.”

Mr. Jeff Ren, with nearly twenty years of investment experience, stated in his speech that since its establishment, we have invested in over 300 projects across various fields including Layer1, Layer2, DeFi, AI, and GameFi. The year 2024 is expected to be a year of gradual recovery for the blockchain industry, and OKX Ventures has completed over 80 investments this year, covering areas such as the Bitcoin ecosystem, AI, and DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks). OKX Ventures will continue to allocate resources and capital to projects focused on blockchain infrastructure, GameFi, DeFi, NFTs, and more, to drive technological innovation and industry progress.

Ryan He, Head of Industry Sales at Space Nation, showcased the model and data of Space Nation games in his keynote speech “The Metaverse: A Journey Beyond Gaming,” discussing the future development of the gaming industry.

Vincent Liu, CIO of Kronos Research, discussed the evolving landscape of the cryptocurrency market and the important role of market makers in shaping its future in his keynote speech “Envisioning Crypto in 2025: The Role of Market Makers in Shaping the Future.” Vincent emphasized innovations such as decentralized order books and AI tools that are bridging the gap between centralized and decentralized systems. He also explored the growing collaboration between traditional finance and DeFi, which he believes paves the way for enhanced liquidity and efficiency in centralized models. As cryptocurrencies enter mainstream portfolios, clearer regulations and smarter infrastructure will create a fairer and more accessible market for everyone.

Additionally, Ran Yi, co-founder of Orderly Network, pointed out in his speech “DEXs 3.0: The CEX to DEX Transition” that there is still significant room for optimization in current Web3 trading. By combining the advantages of CEX and DEX to address existing pain points, user trading experiences can be significantly improved. As a cloud liquidity infrastructure project, Orderly Network focuses on integrating cross-chain derivatives liquidity, unifying orders from different chains into an on-chain order book, and creating a unified liquidity ecosystem across chains. This initiative not only effectively addresses the issue of fragmented liquidity across chains but also enhances trading efficiency, provides deeper liquidity pools, and significantly narrows trading spreads.

In the first fireside chat, DA Capital COO Tim Shen, CopeX co-founder Paul, and Alvin from Elite Trading Academy discussed the topic “How Can Communities Become a Strong Support for User Trading?” Tim Shen believes that a good trading community, as demonstrated by the DA Traders Alliance, provides different methods and tools for community users to learn based on their trading levels and experience. For beginners, timely insights from analysts are crucial; we utilize systematic tutorials to help newcomers avoid scams and correctly use cryptocurrency tools, supplemented by daily live broadcasts to build trust within the community and familiarize them with the cryptocurrency market. For community users with a foundational understanding, we provide market hot topics and project research filtered and observed by our investment research personnel, thereby eliminating information asymmetry in cryptocurrency.

CopeX co-founder Paul stated that professionalism is fundamental in building a community; KOLs must have a certain level of understanding of trading to lead users effectively. Education and interaction are also very important, as trading often involves a lot of downtime, making the process tedious and boring. Finding ways to make this process interesting and continuously providing content to users is a challenge for every community. Finally, tools are also very important; for example, CopeX can facilitate smoother trading for users, quickly obtain market information, and make it easier for KOLs and teams to manage communities while also generating additional income, which can be a significant incentive for users to join the community.

Alvin from Elite Trading Academy believes that a valuable trading community is centered around providing reliable information, professional guidance, and valuable discussions. In our Elite Trading Academy, leaders must have practical experience to provide accurate market analysis, helping users understand the essence of the market. The community should focus on learning, understanding user needs, and providing systematic content tailored to beginners or experienced investors. More importantly, the learning environment is a key factor influencing the community; given the fast-paced market changes, it should provide timely answers and perspectives to help users view the market correctly. I also believe that the core of managing a community lies in positioning and structural design; only with clear positioning can we attract the corresponding demographic.

The value of a community lies not just in providing information, but in establishing a complete knowledge system through good management strategies, structured learning, long-term practical exercises, and the integration of data and analytical tools, helping each user find their growth direction and making the community itself a long-term partner they can rely on.

The second fireside chat, hosted by Alex from Blocktempo, titled “What’s the Future of Gaming and Mini Apps,” discussed the future of GameFi and mini apps in the context of current popular Telegram discussions.

Anndy Lian from Memecore believes that in the past few years, many developers have tried to bring Web2 users into Web3 through gaming. He believes that MEME culture has untapped potential to accelerate this transition. Through MemeCore, our goal is to leverage the power of MEME to drive mass adoption, spark creativity, and expand the possibilities in the Web3 space. We aim not only to achieve product development but also to reimagine how people interact with blockchain networks.

CashCashBot founder “Sabi Ge” stated that MiniApps have already been validated in the Web2 market on platforms like WeChat and Douyin, and will soon be replicated on TG, LINE, TikTok, and other platforms. Mini-games previously seen on WeChat and Douyin will migrate to new platforms to capture new traffic and monetization opportunities. There are already professional studios developing Tap to Earn mini-games, which are just the initial, most basic steps. Interactive games, social mini-programs, and AI application mini-programs will definitely emerge in the future, all infused with Web3 value empowerment.

Darren from Space Nation delved into the future of MMORPGs and the role of virtual economies. He explained how Spacenation simplifies existing gaming models using blockchain technology rather than reinventing the wheel.

“We’re not inventing something new; we’re just simplifying what already works.”

He cited examples like “World of Warcraft,” where players have been trading assets and accounts for years. He believes that blockchain provides a more efficient and secure way to manage these transactions.

Darren also emphasized the importance of a strong in-game economy for the success of MMORPGs. He pointed out that many games fail due to economic collapse, leading to decreased player engagement.

Asia-Pacific Leads World in Crypto Adoption Amid Bitcoin’s $100,000 Rally

Asia-Pacific Leads World in Crypto Adoption Amid Bitcoin’s $100,000 Rally

It’s a milestone that’s been on global cryptocurrency enthusiasts’ minds for many years: Bitcoin’s recent rally to a value of $100,000. At the same time, Bitcoin’s surge helped uncover Asia’s sky-high enthusiasm for crypto adoption and development.

The scale of Bitcoin’s ongoing rally is the topic of much debate, but its resonance in Asian economies appears assured regardless of the direction that the cryptocurrency takes in the months ahead.

According to the 2024 Global Crypto Adoption Index, Central & Southern Asia and Oceania (CSAO) lead the world in crypto adoption, accounting for seven of the top 20 most active nations for both centralized and decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols.

At the forefront of this growth was Indonesia, which surpassed $30 billion (475.13 trillion rupiah) in cryptocurrency transactions between January and October 2024, representing a growth of over 350 percent in comparison to the same period in 2023.

However, we’re also seeing widespread change at an institutional level, which could see significant growth in the number of cryptocurrency use cases in 2025 and beyond throughout the region. With interest in crypto reaching new levels in the Asia-Pacific, Bitcoin is becoming more accessible than ever before.

Bitcoin’s recent growth has brought a series of watershed moments for Asian adoption of crypto. In November, ZA Bank, Hong Kong’s first and largest digital bank, became the continent’s first institution to offer cryptocurrency trading services directly to retail investors. With ZA Bank’s app, it’s possible for users to trade cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum without the need for switching platforms in the process.

In November 2024, Japanese firm AEON announced the launch of a QR code payment system on Binance’s BNB Chain with Terminus, helping to scale crypto payment accessibility in East Asia.

The tools are intended to make cryptocurrency payments a seamless experience for users and merchants, and the initiative could help leverage more offline cryptocurrency payments throughout the region.

Cryptocurrency payments have been identified as a leading payment trend due to their flexibility and security qualities, and opening the door to making purchases with coins like Bitcoin represents a major step toward acceptance.

We’re also seeing Asian firms making strides in expanding investment opportunities at an institutional level.

Focused on leveraging Bitcoin as a primary reserve asset to optimize financial strategies and drive stakeholder value, Sora Ventures has launched a $150 million fund to grow Bitcoin-focused investment strategies among listed companies throughout Asia. Targeting companies listed on major stock exchanges throughout Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan, and South Korea, the move is a conscious effort to replicate the success of MicroStrategy’s Bitcoin reserve model in the United States.

In the month following the U.S. presidential election, which saw both Wall Street and cryptocurrency markets embark on a rally off the back of Donald Trump’s victory, Bitcoin grew by 30 percent. That’s over twice the 14 percent growth rate experienced by the Roundhill Magnificent Seven ETF (MAGS), an exchange-traded fund that focuses on Wall Street’s seven largest companies by market capitalization.

The expansion of investment options for Asia’s largest firms can open the door to better-managed growth, and the ability to embrace the historical outperformance of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin fully.

It’s also important to highlight Asia’s invaluable role among crypto developers, with the continent surpassing North America in recent years to attain a strong market share. Since 2015, Asia’s share of global cryptocurrency developers has surged from just 13 percent to 32 percent, while North America’s market share fell from 44 percent to 25 percent over the same period.

While India has been a driving force in Asia’s newfound crypto dominance, nations like China, Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore have all helped to build a conducive infrastructure for crypto developers.

According to Singapore-based fund manager Anndy Lian, in the emerging markets of India and Southeast Asia, where traditional banking infrastructure can be less accessible, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin have helped to democratize financial services to residents. It’s this necessity for innovation that appears to be positioning the Asia-Pacific at the forefront of crypto innovation, and the benefits are being reaped by retail investors and institutions alike.

According to a recent National Thailand report, nations like Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines possess high smartphone penetration rates, making cryptocurrency far more accessible during its ongoing market rally. As a result, we could see far more sustained adoption rates for crypto and DeFi services developed locally.

Despite clear indications that Asia is embracing the ongoing cryptocurrency rally more enthusiastically than ever before, a number of challenges remain.

Cryptocurrency is famously volatile and open to exploitation among unwitting users. With Bitcoin’s historical bull runs giving way to substantial losses, both retail and institutional adopters will need to be wary of buying into crypto.

Asia is also contending with cryptocurrency crime, which could become more widespread as adoption grows. Forbes recently reported that addresses in China received more than $37.8 million in cryptocurrency between January 2018 and April 2023, with links being made to illegal fentanyl sales being made using crypto payments on a major scale. This may call for regulatory oversight capable of rapidly adapting to an industry that’s famous for its unpredictability.

For all its problems, Bitcoin’s recent surge beyond $100,000 serves as a reminder of the vast potential of the cryptocurrency industry. By responsibly embracing the potential of crypto, the Asia-Pacific can become more prosperous, economically flexible, and accessible to all residents.

Despite its famous volatility and concerns over misuse, the long-term potential of cryptocurrency is bright, and Asia is well-positioned to become a world leader in crypto innovation.

The APAC Tech Revolution: Five trends shaping our future

The APAC region is a hub of technological innovation, with trends like artificial intelligence, blockchain, cryptocurrency, electric vehicles, and autonomous driving shaping the future. These technologies are not only transforming industries but also creating new opportunities and challenges.

The Asia-Pacific (APAC) region has become a significant player in the global tech landscape, setting trends that are transforming industries and societies worldwide. Having observed the tech industry closely over the years, it’s clear that APAC is not just keeping up with global developments; it is often at the forefront.

From artificial intelligence to autonomous driving, the region is a hub of innovation, with five key tech trends leading the way into a new era of technological progress.

Artificial Intelligence: The rise of Grok AI

Artificial intelligence has moved from being a futuristic idea to a transformative force reshaping our daily lives and work environments. In APAC, AI is being adopted with great enthusiasm, and one of the most intriguing projects is Grok AI, led by Elon Musk. Grok AI aims to expand the capabilities of AI, focusing on creating systems that can understand and interact with humans in more advanced ways.

Elon Musk has suggested that his AI can interpret medical data, stating, “This is still early stage, but it is already quite accurate and will become extremely good,” in a post on X. Dr. Laura Heacock, an associate professor and breast radiologist at NYU Imaging, tested xAI’s Grok AI against the same set of breast imaging scans she used for benchmarking GPT-4. Her findings, shared through a series of 12 social media posts, were not favourable. Despite Grok’s ability to recognise basic imaging types like mammograms and ultrasounds, it failed to diagnose correctly in any instance. Heacock also concluded that Grok did slightly better than GPT-4 but still missed all diagnoses. From my perspective, this is a promising start.

Countries like China, Japan, and South Korea are heavily investing in AI, recognising its potential to drive economic growth and improve quality of life. China, in particular, aims to become a global leader in AI by 2030, leveraging its vast data resources and government support. Companies like Baidu are leading the way, making significant advancements in areas like natural language processing and autonomous driving. The impact of AI in APAC is profound, revolutionising sectors such as healthcare and finance by enhancing diagnostics, patient care, fraud detection, and customer service.

Blockchain: The power of decentralisation

Blockchain technology, with its promise of decentralisation and transparency, is captivating innovators and investors across APAC. Solana, a high-performance blockchain platform, stands out for its ability to process thousands of transactions per second at a low cost, attracting more users than many traditional Web2 companies. However, some argue about its level of decentralisation, which is a topic for another day.

There is a noticeable surge in blockchain-based startups and initiatives globally. Singapore, for example, has established itself as a hub for blockchain innovation, offering a supportive regulatory environment and a vibrant ecosystem of startups and investors. South Korea is exploring blockchain for various government services to enhance transparency and efficiency. The decentralisation offered by blockchain is particularly appealing in regions seeking more inclusive and equitable systems. As blockchain technology continues to evolve, its impact on industries and societies in the region is expected to grow.

Cryptocurrency: From bitcoin to mainstream adoption

Cryptocurrency, closely linked to blockchain, has rapidly moved from the fringes to the mainstream, with Bitcoin leading the charge. The APAC region has been at the forefront of this trend, with countries like Japan and South Korea embracing cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. Bitcoin, the first and most well-known cryptocurrency, has seen its value soar, capturing the attention of investors and governments alike. In APAC, Bitcoin is increasingly viewed as a legitimate asset class, with some countries even considering establishing Bitcoin reserve funds. This shift in perception is exemplified by former U.S. President Donald Trump’s surprising support for Bitcoin, adding further legitimacy to the cryptocurrency.

Japan recognises Bitcoin as a legal form of payment and has a robust regulatory framework for cryptocurrency exchanges. South Korea also has a vibrant cryptocurrency market, with high public interest and government support for blockchain technology. The rise of cryptocurrency in APAC is not without challenges, such as regulatory uncertainty and concerns about security and fraud. Nevertheless, the potential of cryptocurrency to revolutionise finance and create new economic opportunities is undeniable, and APAC is poised to play a leading role in this transformation.

Electric Vehicles: The revolution led by Elon Musk and China

The electric vehicle (EV) revolution is well underway, with APAC at the heart of this transformation. Elon Musk’s Tesla has been a major catalyst for the EV movement, demonstrating that electric cars can be both desirable and practical. Tesla’s success has inspired a wave of innovation and investment in this sector, particularly in China. China, the world’s largest automotive market, is rapidly becoming a leader in electric vehicles. The Chinese government has set ambitious targets for EV adoption, offering subsidies and incentives to manufacturers and consumers. As a result, Chinese companies like BYD and NIO are emerging as major players in the global EV market.

The impact of electric vehicles extends beyond environmental benefits. The shift to EVs is driving innovation in battery technology, charging infrastructure, and renewable energy integration. Moreover, the growth of the EV market is creating new economic opportunities, from manufacturing to services. APAC’s commitment to electric vehicles is a testament to its forward-thinking approach to sustainability and innovation. As the world moves towards a greener future, the region’s leadership in the EV sector will be crucial.

Autonomous Driving: The future of transportation

Autonomous driving technology is set to revolutionise transportation, with APAC leading the way. Self-driving cars promise to enhance safety, reduce congestion, and transform the way we travel. Companies like Baidu and Hyundai are at the forefront of autonomous driving research and development. Baidu’s Apollo project, for instance, is one of the most advanced autonomous driving platforms globally, with partnerships spanning multiple countries and industries.

The potential of autonomous driving extends beyond personal vehicles. In the future, services like Uber could become driverless, offering a new level of convenience and efficiency. Many countries are already exploring autonomous public transportation solutions, with pilot projects in cities like Singapore and Tokyo. The road to fully autonomous vehicles is not always smooth sailing, including regulatory hurdles, technological limitations, and public acceptance. The progress being made in APAC is promising, and the potential benefits of autonomous driving are too significant to ignore.

Bottom Line

The APAC region is a hub of technological innovation, with trends like artificial intelligence, blockchain, cryptocurrency, electric vehicles, and autonomous driving shaping the future. These technologies are not only transforming industries but also creating new opportunities and challenges.

As the region continues to lead the way in tech innovation, it is crucial to address the ethical, regulatory, and societal implications of these technologies. By doing so, it can ensure that the benefits of technological advancement are shared widely and equitably. In conclusion, the tech trends dominating APAC are a testament to the region’s dynamism and potential. As these technologies continue to evolve, they will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the global economy and society.
